  • When I was 7 my mum and dad saw an ad in the Kentish Gazette for Chorister trials at Canterbury Cathedral. I went to see the conductor, somehow nabbed a place, and the rest is history. I’ve been singing in choirs ever since, and even met my then future wife in one, so singing is a big part of my life.

  • The cameraderie in Thanet Chamber Choir is a huge strength. You just are with a group of lovely, funny people every week, and that means a huge amount. Our conductor keeps the repertoire stretching and with a massive range, from folk songs to musical numbers. He’s not yet persuaded us to do an Elvis tune yet though!

  • Singing ‘The Reluctant Dragon’ will be a good memory for a long time. Singing a little story; raiding the dressing up box; screaming midway through the piece like a damsel in distress. What’s not to like?

  • If I had to go for three I’d pick Byrd, ‘Ne Irascaris Domine’ as an early one. Vaughan Williams, ‘Wassail Song’ as something more modern. My big choral society belter would be Verdi’s ‘Requiem’.

  • The official answer is piano and tuba. The reality is I dabble on the piano, but anyone who hears me will tell you the less I play the better, and my tuba hasn’t played in an oompah band for many years. If there’s an orchestra needing a spare player let me know!
